A lizard in South Florida has a different likely species set from one photographed on a Galápagos shoreline or a Caribbean island.
Treat color as supporting evidence
Lighting, age, sex and physiological state can all influence visible color. A red or orange-looking iguana is not automatically a separate species from a green one.
Photograph useful features
For identification, capture the side of the head, full body, dorsal crest and tail if possible, plus the location. Avoid approaching or handling a wild animal just to get a better image.
